Fat-forming variant of solitary fibrous tumor found in falciform ligament: A case report

چکیده
Introduction: the lipomatous variant of solitary fibrous tumor (sFt) is rare. Only six have been reported within the abdominopelvic region and this is the first reported within the falciform ligament. case report: A 41-yearold male presented with cramping epigastric pain and reflux. On examination an epigastric mass was palpable. He was investigated with a full blood count, liver and kidney function tests and electrolytes; which were all within normal limits. An ultrasound scan documented a mass just below his xiphisternum, beneath his linear alba, 61x48x31 mm in size, causing mild compression of the liver. this mass was further investigated with a computed tomography scan which confirmed a mass just below his xiphisternum. the lesion appeared vascular and differential diagnoses on imaging included a vascular malformation, hemangioma or vascular neoplasm. Intraoperatively a hard mass was excised from the distal portion of the falciform ligament. Histopathology of the lesion showed a circumscribed spindle cell neoplasm containing a significant amount of mature adipose tissue. the Marilla Jane Dickfos1,2, Lisa Squires3 Affiliations: 1MBBS BAppSci (Hons) General Surgery Principal House Officer, Department of General Surgery, The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; 2School of Medicine, the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; 3MBBS BAgrSc (Hons), Registrar, Department of Pathology, The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Solitary Fibrous Tumor of the Parotid Gland: A Case Report
Introduction: Solitary fibrous tumor is a rare, mesenchymal neoplasm that has been reported in numerous sites. Occurrence in the parotid gland is exceedingly rare. Case Report: A 53-year-old man with a 2 cm solitary fibrous tumor of the left parotid gland, that was observed clinically and operatively and thought to be a neoplasm arising from Stensen's duct, is described. A pre-operative CT sc...
متن کاملSolitary fibrous tumour of the falciform ligament containing multiple foci of malignant transformation.
Solitary fibrous tumour is an uncommon soft tissue tumour initially described in the pleural cavity. In the past decade, it has been described in various extrapleural sites, including the abdomen. Traditionally regarded as benign, cases of histologically or clinically malignant solitary fibrous tumours are rare. This report describes such a case, although the patient is still disease free five ...
متن کاملSolitary Fibrous Tumor of the Lung: A Case Report
Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor of the pleura, which arises from visceral pleura and projects into the pleural cavity. This tumor is not related to asbestos exposure or cigarette smoking (1). We report a rare case of SFT of the lung. In this case report, we present the case of a giant SFT in a 76-year-old woman who presented with the complaint of chest pain on the left...
متن کاملMalignant fat-forming solitary fibrous tumor (lipomatous hemangiopericytoma) in the neck: Imaging and histopathological findings of a case.
Fat-forming solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare variant of solitary fibrous tumor, a mesenchymal fibroblastic neoplasia with a particular branching hypervascular pattern. This tumor is usually classified as benign and only very few fat-forming SFTs with malignant histologic features have been reported. We report a histologically malignant fat-forming solitary fibrous tumor in a 61-year-old m...
متن کاملBenign schwannoma of posterior mediastinum accompanied by bloody pleural effusion misdiagnosed as solitary fibrous tumor: A case report
Background: Schwannoma is a peripheral nerve sheath tumor originating from schwann cells. It is the most common neurogenic tumor of the posterior mediastinum. Pleural effusion is a rare presentation of benign schwannoma and it is mainly related to malignant tumors. Histologically, schwannoma as well as solitary fibrous tumor should be considered as a differential diagnosis of spindle cell lesio...
